Bill Engvall is Bill Pearson, a family counselor who can’t seem to figure out his own family. 
Bill's wife, played by Nancy Travis (Becker, The Jane Austen Book Club), may have a better grasp on the family
dynamics but Bill is a bit of a puzzle to her at times. She's not above turning to Bill's best friend Paul
Dufrayne, played by Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) for a glimpse into
Bill's motivation.
Paul is a renowned hair-replacement specialist who works in Bill's building. He likes to look sharp and have the
latest techno-gadgets, but he's always a step behind when it comes to finding love. Over time he's become a
fixture at the Pearson house.
Much of Bill's consternation comes from his unusual assortment of children; Lauren (Jennifer Lawrence -
The Burning Plain), Trent (Graham Patrick Martin - The Girl Next Door) and Bryan (Skyler Gisondo - Walk Hard:
The Dewey Cox Story). Lauren is a typical high-school girl trying to sort out classes and dating. Sports fan
and video-gamer Trent is the middle child with middle-child issues while musically talented neat-freak Bryan
is the resident baby and genius of the family.
Engvall and Travis offer a humorous look at what it takes to be a parent in today’s world, balancing the
difficulties of parenting - like allowance controversies, driver’s licenses and parking tickets - against
the need to be adults in love who still remember that a spark in their lives doesn't mean someone has set fire
to the curtains again.
"One of the things I talk about in my act is that, as a parent, all you’re basically doing is keeping a lid
on things until the kids go to college," Engvall says. "I want my show to be a reflection of real life and
the real issues that parents and kids face each day."
